Genetic Interactions: Basis for Genetic Network

The Ingredients
1. MIPS: 1050 genetic interactions, as of April 5th, 2003. URL's for MIPS are:
GSF MIPS - Munich Information Center for Protein Sequences: http://mips.gsf.de/
MIPS Comprehensive Yeast Genome Database (CYGD): http://mips.gsf.de/proj/yeast/CYGD/db/index.html

Mewes, H.W. et al. MIPS: a database for genomes and protein sequences. Nucleic Acids Research 30, 31-34 (2002).

2. SGA: 291 interactions, in the Systematic Genetic Analysis screen, published by Tong, et al. in 2001. Tong, A.H. et al. Systematic genetic analysis with ordered arrays of yeast deletion mutants. Science 294, 2364-2368. (2001)

Combining the Data
Combining the 1050 and the 291, we find 1341, of which only 1332 are unique.

 MIPS =  1050
 SGA  =   291
 TOTAL = 1341
 UNIQUE= 1332

Of the remaining 1332, 16 involve non-genes (centromeres, etc.): (1 ELM11) (1 ELM2) (1 ELM3) (1 ELM6) (1 NME1) (1 SUR3) (1 GAL82) (1 GCN7) (1 CDEII) (1 HREG1) (1 CDEI) (1 LST2) (1 LST6) (1 TLC1) (2 SNR10)

Of the remaining 1316, four are self-loops, according to our ability to parse MIPS (all four are from MIPS, rather than Tong, et al.).:
 YDL207W gl YDL207W
 YDR021W gl YDR021W
 YMR055C gl YMR055C
 YOR127W gl YOR127W

Finally:
This leave 1312 genetic interactions, total. (1007 synthetic lethals, 305 suppressions.)
